Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

***This review contains spoilers so be warned.****

I want to preface this review by stating this book is a perfect example of no matter how big of fan-girls we may be at Guilty Pleasures, that occasionally one of our favorite authors puts out a book that just doesn't work for us. It doesn't mean we give up on the author, it just means this one wasn't a good fit. These are the hardest reviews to post, but we owe it to everyone to provide honest reviews. ~ DiDi

I really, really wanted to love this book because I kind of loved Flynn Beckham in the first book of this series Throb, but instead after reading this book I feel sorry for him because in all honesty he deserves much better. This is not a happy story, it is not a light hearted read, it is not even really a romance it would be much better off in the woman's fiction section because anytime a book features rabid cheating by not only people in a committed relationship but also by married people it is not a romance. I am thoroughly disappointed in this book and the only reason this book has two stars is because despite it all I still enjoyed the hero, Flynn.

For the first part of this book I liked the heroine Lucky and her smart wit and the fact that she was trying to get her life on track and hopefully one day get back to her dreams of performing, but sadly I lost all faith in her when she carried on an affair with Flynn while still sleeping next to her boyfriend. Even more when she and Flynn slept together which they did while she was still supposedly committed to her rock star boyfriend, Dylan Ryder, a man who not only holds her employment in the palm of his hand but Flynn's as well.

Bless Flynn's heart because he really tried to do the right thing, he tried to stay away he even broke off their friendship/affair but he was weak and stupid and in love with a woman who couldn't make up her mind which should have pissed him off as much as it did me. Flynn was a good person he was caught in an impossible situation and one that could have been avoided had he and Lucky sat down and really talked.

Honestly there were some good moments in this book like the time Flynn spent with his niece and the times he and Lucky worked on writing music together and even the moments they spent flirting but the rest of the story was filled with the rock star lifestyle of anything goes even when you have a wife and two kids at home while planning a third and that's when I was really over this story. As much as I've loved this author's work in the past, I'll admit after reading Beat I will be very leery of picking up her work again (due to the cheating). This my friends is not romance, no matter how you want to look at it; this was the story of a woman who was too weak willed to break up with her rock star boyfriend so she could pursue another musician whose life could be ruined by her boyfriend and caught in the crosshairs was a man who I still feel is way too good for that woman. for the first part of this book i liked the heroine lucky and her smart wit and the fact that she was trying to get her life on track and hopefully one day get back to her dreams of performing, but sadly i lost all faith in her when she carried on an affair with flynn while still sleeping next to her boyfriend. even more when she and flynn slept together which they did while she was still supposedly committed to her rock star boyfriend, dylan ryder, a man who not only holds her employment in the palm of his hand but flynn's as well.

bless flynn's heart because he really tried to do the right thing, he tried to stay away he even broke off their friendship/affair but he was weak and stupid and in love with a woman who couldn't make up her mind which should have pissed him off as much as it did me. flynn was a good person he was caught in an impossible situation and one that could have been avoided had he and lucky sat down and really talked.

honestly there were some good moments in this book like the time flynn spent with his niece and the times he and lucky worked on writing music together and even the moments they spent flirting but the rest of the story was filled with the rock star lifestyle of anything goes even when you have a wife and two kids at home while planning a third and that's when i was really over this story. as much as i've loved this author's work in the past, i'll admit after reading beat i will be very leery of picking up her work again (due to the cheating). this my friends is not romance, no matter how you want to look at it; this was the story of a woman who was too weak willed to break up with her rock star boyfriend so she could pursue another musician whose life could be ruined by her boyfriend and caught in the crosshairs was a man who i still feel is way too good for that woman. i want to preface this review by stating this book is a perfect example of no matter how big of fan-girls we may be at guilty pleasures, that occasionally one of our favorite authors puts out a book that just doesn't work for us. it doesn't mean we give up on the author, it just means this one wasn't a good fit. these are the hardest reviews to post, but we owe it to everyone to provide honest reviews. ~ didi

i really, really wanted to love this book because i kind of loved flynn beckham in the first book of this series throb, but instead after reading this book i feel sorry for him because in all honesty he deserves much better. this is not a happy story, it is not a light hearted read, it is not even really a romance it would be much better off in the woman's fiction section because anytime a book features rabid cheating by not only people in a committed relationship but also by married people it is not a romance. i am thoroughly disappointed in this book and the only reason this book has two stars is because despite it all i still enjoyed the hero, flynn.
