How Do Plants Grow?

How could I take a topic that could potentially be dull for children and make it fun? By using rhymes. Children learn about photosynthesis through a rhyme-filled conversation between an African – American father and his curious son as they walk through a park. I thought it was important to have an African-American father and his son be the central characters in this book to highlight the relationships between fathers and sons in communities of color, which are often downplayed in the media. Many fathers of color are active in their children’s lives, and children need to see that shown in books.
